FAQs

How do I measure my head?

Take a tape measure around the widest part of your head; the forehead around the widest part of your head and back to meet the forehead. Think of how a hat would sit. Don't pull too tight on the tape or your hat will be too tight. It is useful to insert your pinky under the tape to allow for a little room when measuring.

Headpieces, fascinators, and small hats that perch over the forehead are One Size Fits All.

Hat Care

Handle your hat by the brim, not the crown. This can weaken the crown's ability to hold its shape or create a crease that can't be fixed.

Store your hat in a hat box in a cool, dry place. Beware of moths making a snack out of your hat by using lavender or cedar to keep them at bay.

Never leave your hat in a hot car. Heat and sunlight can fade and shrink your hat.

To clean a fur felt hat brush the top and bottom counter-clockwise with a soft bristle brush.

Avoid wearing your hat in the rain. Dyes may not be colorfast. Straw fibers will swell when wet and felt will shrink, distorting the shape.

If caught in the rain, allow wet hats to dry naturally, shape the hat to its proper form; a wet hat will dry in the shape you leave it in.

Sinamay hats should not be exposed to rain, this will cause the shape to warp. Protect your hat with a rainproof hat protector. A plastic bag works in a pinch.
