Join us for a creative two-day workshop where you’ll design and construct a stylish straw fascinator or hat using a premium parasisal straw hat body. These hat bodies are handwoven from sisal straw in the traditional “Pari” weave, prized for its refined herringbone texture and elegant finish.
The first day, students will block their straw hat bodies on a selection of vintage or modern wooden hat blocks. Techniques covered include pre-stiffening straw prior to blocking, shaping the straw over the block, and wiring the brim edge to achieve clean, durable lines.
The second day, we’ll focus on finishing details, including completing the brim edges and hand-sewing a sweatband. The workshop concludes with trimming your hat. Students may use straw cutoffs to create decorative elements or choose from studio trims on hand. You’re also welcome to bring additional trim if desired.
This is a hands-on, small-group class ideal for those interested in millinery, costume design, or exploring a new creative skill. Hand-sewing skills are recommended but not required.
Saturday, February 7th from 10:00-4:00 & Sunday, February 8th, from 10:00-4:00. One hour lunch break each day.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own hat body. Ordering details will be provided upon registration.
