Sinamay Straw Hat Workshop

In this two day workshop students will learn to make a straw hat using sinamay straw cloth.  Sinamay is a natural straw fabric made from abaca fibers.

The first day students will be blocking the sinamay over hat blocks in the morning. After lunch they begin working on sewing the hat together. 

The second day, we will be finishing the brim edges and sewing in a sweatband. The final touch will be creating a decorative trim. Simple trim will be provided but students can bring in additional trim if they wish. 

Class will meet Saturday, July 20th from 10:00-4:00 and Sunday, July 21th, from 10:00-4:00.

One hour lunch break each day. Hand sewing skills recommended but not required.

Students will be ordering and purchasing their own sinamay straw.
